The distillation residue discharged from the bottom of the distillation column is what we call methanol wastewater, which includes methanol, ethanol, alcohol and aldehydes and a few long chain compounds. If such waste water is discharged directly, it is bound to cause serious damage and pollution to the environment. After years of research, a certain effect has been achieved in this area.

There are two main methods for the treatment of methal formaldehyde wastewater, one is physical method and the other is chemical method. The physical method also includes vaporization and other physical methods. Vaporization method is based on the physical characteristics of low boiling point of alcohols, vaporizing low boiling point organic matter in waste water, so as to reach the dual purpose of disposing waste water and receiving the raw material of taking over. Other physical methods include distillation, adsorption, membrane distillation, and so on.

Chemical treatment of methanol wastewater includes wet air oxidation, air catalytic oxidation, chemical oxidation and electrolytic oxidation. In contrast, the wet oxidation process is easier.
